Kanyamunyu reapplies for Bail amidst Age Limit, land bill saga

Kanyamunyu arriving at Nakawa court

The Criminal Division of the High Court in Kampala received a new bail application for Mr. Mathew Kanyamunyu.

The businessman is facing a murder charge alongside his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu and girlfriend Ms. Cynthia Munywangari who are out on bail.

According Mr. Emmanuel Baguma, the acting Registrar Criminal Division, Hon. Justice Yasin Nyanzi will hear the new application.

Mr. Mathew Kanyamunyu, Ms. Cynthia Munywangari and Mr. Joseph Kanyamunyu are said to have murdered the late Akena on the night of November 12, 2016 around Lugogo along the Jinja-Kampala after an altercation that allegedly rose from a minor road accident involving Mr. Akena and Mr. Matthew Kanyamunyu.

This is the third time that Kanyamunyu is applying for bail after the last two attempts were turned down by the High Court. He has been on remand at Luzira prison for the last nine months.

It should be remembered that this case has attracted a lot of public interest as some of the local politicians associated it to tribal citing that it’s Banyankole against Acholi.

During one of the attempts for bail application, Kanyamunyu’s sureties who included the Winnie Byanyama the Wife to former presidential aspirant Dr. Kiiza Besigye fueled mixed reactions as leaders from Acholi led by Hon. Odonga Otto and Hon. Beatrice Anywar accused her for supporting criminals and being against the Acholi.

However, has time has gone on, other events have happened and apparently the attention of Ugandans is more fixed on the infamous constitutional Amendment that involves allegations of lifting presidential age limit.
