Taxi operators are also humans, fathers – Lukwago tells Musisi

Lukwago

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has directed the executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority to immediate stop the alleged brutality against taxi operators over daily dues.

Speaking to journalists early this morning, Lukwago has asked the authority to collect fees annually as directed by the president since tax operators may end up not saving anything for their families.

He added that its high time operators begged the president to respect his promise so that they can avoid being harassed by law enforcement officers.

Lukwago also noted that regardless of the taxi operator’s failure to pay the money in time, there was no need ot humiliate and cane them like chicken thieves since they are all human and responsible people who deserve some beat of respect.

These statements follow yesterday’s operation by the KCCA Law enforcement officers against commuter taxis whose owners had not cleared taxes for three months.

However shortly after the operation, the operators blocked the president on his way to office and presented their grievances which he promised to address.
