MPs have tasked the Internal Affairs Ministry and the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura to explain the arrest of 12 minors in connection to the murder of former police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
The minors, aged between two and 12 years, were taken in custody on March 19th, 2017, two days after the brutal killing of Kaweesi, his body Kenneth Erau and Driver, Godfrey Mambewa in Kulambiro, a suburb of Kampala.
They were found at the home of Abdul Rashid Mbaziira in Namasengere village, Nabaale Sub County, Mukono District. Mbaziira is one of the suspects in the murder. The minors were confined at Kyampisi Child Care center in Mukono district. The children were reunited with their mothers this morning at Nagalama Police Station.
Now, some legislators are demanding an explanation on why the minors were held. It came after the Kawempe North MP Latif Sebaggala raised the issue on the floor of parliament as a matter of national importance. Sebaggala says it was outrageous to hold children on the suspicion of the crimes committed by their parents.
In the same context, the former Presidential candidate Dr. kiiza Besigye added that the leadership of the police institution doesn’t start with Kayhiura, it starts with M7 who appointed him Citing that those in power implement land laws with impunity; they go on to override those without power
