The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has called upon East African Countries to embrace and protect the East African Integration, and ratify the pending protocols in Maputo Declaration.
“We should strengthen regional collaboration and network in the spirit of the East African community, so that our citizens enjoy the benefits of trade in goods and services. Parliaments must ratify the protocols, pacts and policy agenda initiated at the East African Legislative Assembly for us to share the fruits of regional integration in an equitable and fair manner.”
Kadaga was speaking at a dinner she hosted for visiting speakers at the Speke Resort Munyonyo on Monday 5th June 2017
The Speakers from the different countries were grateful for the cordial relationship that the Parliament of Uganda accorded their different parliaments. The 2nd Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hon. Mohad Aabdalle Aawad, said that he is grateful for the training which they get from the Parliament of Uganda every time they get recess.
The Speaker of South Sudan, Hon Anthony Lino Makana, informed the Speaker that South Sudan was now fully integrated into the EAC.
“Madam Speaker you held our hand as South Sudan, and for the first time we shall be sworn in as Members of the East African Legislative Assembly,” he said
The dinner was also attended by Speaker of the Kenyan Senate, Hon. Ekwee David Ethuro who was accompanied by the Clerk to the National Assembly Mr. Michael Sialai.
