EastLink Communications is glad to announce the second edition of the prestigious TEM Awards 2017 with more categories.
From Jinja to Kumi, Manafwa to Tororo, TEM Awards are the only awards in the entire Eastern region that distinguishes the efforts of media practitioners in the region.
According to Mr. Wabukye David one of the Public Relations Officer EastLink Communications, says that Since most Awards and recognitions jam up and concentrate around kampala leaves the upcountry media talent unrecognized hence slaying their morale.
”With these Awards, Upcountry Media will be motivated and recognized. The Awards covers over 47 Media houses (Radio, TV and Print) broadcasting in the districts of Eastern Uganda. Districts among others include; Mbale, Tororo, Jinja, Pallisa, Busia, Iganga, Busembatya, Soroti, Kumi, Amura Katakwi, Serere, Kapchorwa, Bukwo, Sirinko, Bulambuli, Manafwa, Bududa”. Wabukye said.
The second Edition’s Awarding night is 10th Nov 2017 and the Awards winners are assessed by;
- Survey: Media House comprises of three; Broadcast Print and Electronic. Hence these categories shall be awards based on the survey that shall be conducted by the Awarding Academy.
- Voting: Individuals in this category MUST have a great level of excellence in Media and Experience as well. These categories shall be awarded on a Majority vote from the Publics through the three (3) Voting systems that will see the winner winning on average. (SMS, Social Media, Facebook and Website)
- Judges’ Anonymous Vote: These categories shall be awarded on the Judges’ anonymous vote.

CATEGORIES
Categories winning by Survey
Media House comprises of three; Broadcast Print and Electronic. Hence these categories shall be awards based on the survey that shall be conducted by the Awarding Academy.
- Best Media House – Broadcast;
This category will recognize the best media House i.e. T.V, Radio that his impacted on the lives of communities through their programming.
- Best Media House – Print;
As mentioned above TEMAWARDS17 would like entities to compete favorably, Hence in this Category the Awarding body will look at Newspapers and Magazines compete. This will be still based on impact those particular Houses have on the community based on their writings
- Best Media House – Electronic;
Website, Blogs, Social media pages shall be competing in this category. The above pages/websites will be recognized based on the Journalistic information shared to communities.
Categories winning by majority Vote
Individuals in this category MUST have a great level of excellence in Media and Experience as well. These categories shall be awarded on a Majority vote from the Publics through the three (3) Voting systems that will see the winner winning on average. (SMS, Social Media, Facebook and Website) These individual, include those from the Broadcast, Print and Electronic Media.
- Best Media Personality;
This category recognizes individuals in the Media who have impacted the community with their presentations, News Anchoring, Talk shows etc.
- Best News Anchor – Local Languages:
This category is looking for an individual who understands the dynamics of anchoring news in a local language. Dynamics to be look at for example May include articulation, Punctuations and also Public engagement to the news. This will be limited mainly to News Anchors from the Broadcast Media.
- Best News Anchor – English Language;
Just like the previous category, English News Anchors shall be looking for individuals Understanding the dynamics of News in English Language. Articulations, Punctuation and Public Engagement in News Anchoring shall be some of Dynamics Expected for the Public to look out in particular individuals.
- Best Magazine Show;
The Academy is vying to award a best show that run in the Morning drive time, Afternoon time and Evening drive. The Criteria of nomination among others include; Show MUST is Entertaining and Informative.
- Female Magazine shows Presenter;
Gender Equality has to be observed in TEMAWARDS17. In this category is looking for individuals best at presenting Morning drive shows, Afternoon show and Evening drive a show. The presenter shall be informative and entertaining to the community. This among other Criteria shall be used on nomination.
- Male Magazine shows Presenter-;
Gents who are good at presenting Morning drive shows, Afternoon and Evening drive shows shall compete in this category. As a criteria for nomination they ought to be Entertaining and informative to the community.
- Best Talk show;
Talk shows introduce a sense of calmness in radio and with great information provided to the community, the Awards academy will recognize one of the best talk show in the region. The show will have gathered lots of listenership, informative and educative ideologies.
- Talk show Host;
He who makes a good show must have thrived with experience in doing it. This category shall recognize that individual who has the experience to gather lots of listenership, and giving Informative and Educative ideologies to the community
- Male Sports Media Personality;
This category recognizes individuals who are great at sports and analysis and they have the community informed about the sports world and again entertained. Being informed and Entertain could be one of the Criteria among many to consider while nominating a personality in this category.
- Female Sports Media Personality;
Feminism looks at women Emancipation. Hence ladies with an analytical ear, eye, and brain on sports are to be recognized under this category. They ought to be informative and entertaining in term of Sports to be considered for your nomination.
- Best Commentary;
Commentators do a great job in bringing use the different Sports. Hence this category vies to recognize the best commentary in the broadcast Media. Criteria among other to follow as you nominate are; Proper articulation of different sports per personality ‘names, researched information provide in the commentary, Entertaining.
- Best Male DJ;
The Awarding Academy shall recognize the efforts of Radio, Television and Club DJ’s compete. They shall be nominated on the Criteria of Entertaining and informative with the social responsibility role. This category shall see only the male DJs compete for the Award.
- Best Female DJ;
The Awarding Academy shall recognize the efforts of Radio, Television and Club DJ’s compete. They shall be nominated on the Criteria of Entertaining and informative with the social responsibility role. This category shall see only the female DJs compete for the Award.
- Up-Coming Media Talent;
This category shall recognize budding media personalities who are thriving through the media through the rigorous economy and listener’s support.
- People’s Choice 2017;
This category shall Recognize an individual who has seen media grow in the past decades, mentored and motivated the young talent to grow and has community impact as per their programs.
Categories winning by Judges’ Anonymous Vote
These categories shall be awarded on the Judges’ anonymous vote. These individual, include those from the Broadcast, Print and Electronic Media.
- Best Investigate Story.
Investigative writers from Broadcast, Print and Electronic Media are the individuals to be awarded under this category. Stories shall be submitted to the Awarding body/Academy and judges shall expect the relevant individuals to come and defend their stories. The winner shall be Award base on Judges Evolutions of their Presentation of their stories. Hence this Category is look out for a story well investigated well presented.
- Photojournalist of the Year 2017;
This category recognizes photographers in the Journalism sector. This category includes consideration for Full time and Freelancing photojournalists. These individuals use photography principles to develop, photographs with a Journalistic meaning.
- Photo of the Year 2017;
This category recognizes photographers’ work in the Journalism sector. The category includes consideration for Full time and Freelancing photojournalists. Photographs submitted should abide by principles photojournalism and they will be judged on a journalistic view of point.
Category of honor
They make the Awards be what they are, so in efforts to recognize them we have introduce a category that shall see them at least identified out of the efforts they put to the success of the awards
