Kadaga with some scouts
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has urged Scouts and Girl Guides to develop life skills that enable them to survive even in harsh situations.
She made these remarks during the celebration to mark 110 years of the Scout and Girl Guide Movement all over the world on Saturday 17th June 2017at Mugwanya Summit College in Kyengera.
Kadaga further urged the Scouts and Girl Guides to keep their promises as their mottos state: to be self-reliant, have concern for others, and respect for nature. She further told the patrons of the clubs to find other ways of raising resources to support the Movement.
“When I was a brownie we used to have bob a job to different homes every Saturday collecting the money. We need to find other ways of raising funds to support this Movement and help the less privileged, she said.
She further pledged that she would encourage the Members of Parliament who were former Scouts and “Girl Guides to show visibility in the Scouts and Girl Guides Movements.
“I am what I am today because I was a Girl Guide. I am so proud of that background,” she added.
The Scouts and Girl Guide Movement was founded by Lord and Lady Baden-Powell in 1915, and it has grown over the years.
