Minister Seninde

Over 1million students have been enrolled in the leaners registration exercise conducted by national identification and registration authority (NIRA).

In the exercise which targets over 10million students from Government and private schools which kicked off on the 29th May to 30th August 2017, all school going children above the age of five are to be availed with national identity cards upon the conclusion of registration process.

‘’In the regions where we started first, Registration is almost done so we will get all manpower to regions that are yet to start’’ Seninde said in a media briefing at Uganda media Centre adding that NIRA teams will combine all schools including those in hard to reach places through outreaches.

According to Hon Rose Mary Seninde, the exercise is meant to reduce ghost learners in schools and ensure effective implementation of government projects.

She however assured the country that over 13479 schools have received registration forms and no single parent is expected to pay for leaners registration exercise emphasizing that ‘’the registration is free of charge’’

Despite the fact the all parents have not received their National IDs, Seninde advised all parents to go for registration at all district levels.

‘’It’s sufficient for the registration process if only one parent has provided a copy of his or her national ID’’
