Kadaga hails ‘Love for Kids’ for supporting communities

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has commended ‘Love for Kids’, a non-governmental organization, for providing safe water to various communities in Uganda.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of safe water in providing security to the girl-child and reducing domestic violence.

Kadaga was speaking at a function held as ‘Love for Kids’ celebrated the construction of 500 boreholes milestone, held in Tororo on Monday, 10th July 2017.

“Providing clean water and sanitation is Sustainable Development Goal No. 6; it’s also in our National Development Plan. Thank you for helping Uganda in fulfilling this goal,” Kadaga said.

Love for Kids is an NGO that supports orphans and needy children so that they can succeed in education. It has constructed boreholes in the districts of Butaleja, Busia, Tororo, Kibuku, Budaka, Mpigi and Namayingo.

Kadaga said that availability of water helps reduce domestic violence in homes as it will be easily accessible in the community. She also said that access to water helps children, mostly girls, to study well, since they are “used as the tractors” to ferry water in their homes.

“Availability of water will reduce on the time the girl-child takes to get home from the water sources,” said Kadaga.

Hon. Apollo Yeri Ofwono (NRM, Tororo Munic.) appealed to the Speaker to exercise her powers to influence and cause a reduction in VAT on water in towns so as to make water more affordable to people.

He thanked the Speaker for her support to the girl-child and applauded Love for Kids for providing scholarships, uniforms and scholastic materials to needy children in the district.
