FDC rises nomination fee, members threaten to strike

There has been mixed reactions as Some members of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who have expressed interest in running president have criticized the party for raising nomination fees from Shs3 million to Shs5 million.

Dan Mugarura Bakaaki the chief Electoral Commissioner for the Forum for Democratic Change Electoral Commission says the Nomination of new party president aspirants due in August on 14th and 15th this year.

Three aspirants who have so far picked the nomination forms including Mubarak Munyagwa, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe South, Moses Byamugisha, former youth league leader and Dan Malcolm Masiko say there is no any justification for such an increase.

Specifically, Mastiko says the amount is prohibitive, a claim the party leadership has previously dismissed.

For one to contest for the FDC presidency, they must have a minimum of an A level certificate, anon refundable fee of Shs 5million, national identity card and FDC party card with 20 supporters including four from the four regions of the country.
