Kayihura axes 4 police top officers over Jinja land evictions

IGP Kale Kayihura has suspended four senior police officers cited in the illegal land evictions in 2015 in Jinja.

According to the letter signed by the Police boss, the act has been done to enable the land commission do its work.

These officers including Apollo Kateba who is the current Regional police commander Rwenzori,Twinomujuni Julius from directorate of human rights , Nyabongo Edgar the current regional police commander Kidepo, and Mugizi alex who is now the district police commander Kumi.

Yesterday Justice Catherine Bamugemereire the Lands commission’s Chairperson summoned Gen. Kale Kayihura to answer questions regarding police involvement in illegal land evictions where a group of traders from Aldina Twegaise in Jinja had complained that police allegedly headed by the late AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi gave clearance to an illegal eviction that saw their shops on plot 60-62   along Aldina Visram road in Jinja town demolished.

However Kayihura who led a delegation of over ten police officers from the police Headquarters at Naguru denied being part of the team but admitted that his officers under the command of the then DPC Apollo Kateba carried out the act and pledged to support the commission to see that everything is sorted.
