President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s senior adviser John Nagenda has requested Ugandans not to be tempted to amend article 102.
Nagenda warns that the move is not only bad for the National Resistance Movement but also hazardous for president Museveni to stand in 2021 citing that it’s a huge backward step in democracy.
The senior columnist further explained that those advising President Museveni to seek another term in 2021 are opportunists and have no love for him.
Debate on the presidential age limit came up after it emerged that a section of NRM legislators were plotting to amend article 102(b) of the Constitution, which sets the presidential age limit at 75 years.
This move has however sparked off a lot of criticism from both opposition, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and even party members from the ruling party.
