The opposition JEEMA president and city lawyer Asuman Basalirwa has said that the current Land probe chaired by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire is not being viable to solve the land dispute.
Speaking while appearing on NBS TV on Thursday morning, Basalirwa added that the commission is only helpful in revealing the impunity related to land in Uganda but not providing solutions to the rows.
“We need to also be aware that the impunity starts from the President and flows right through to the bottom.” Basalirwa said.
He also spotted holes in the proposed land amendment bill of 2017 especially on the compulsory land acquisition where he said that there is no amount that can compensate land ownership People have attachments to their land.
“It is difficult and unfair for a government valuer to evaluate my land without my input. This idea of government being the sole valuer of land should be discarded”. Basalirwa added.
