The Uganda people’s Defence Forces commander Gen David Muhoozi has travelled to Mogadishu, Somalia on a visit to UPDF troops under AMISOM.
Gen Muhoozi was received at the contingent Headquarters by the troops commander Brig Kayanja Muhanga who briefed him on the progress of the counter terrorism operations against Al Shabaab and commended the soldiers for exemplary performance in the mission area.
He also met the AMISOM Force Commander Lt Gen Osman Noor Soubagleh with whom he discussed future strategy to support the Somalia National Army and applauded the soldiers for exemplary performance in the mission area.
The Special Representative of the African Union Chairperson, Ambassador Francisco Madeira who commended Uganda for the positive role in championing peace and security on the African continent.
This visit follows the unfortunate attack on the Ugandan soldiers who were killed in an ambush by the insurgents during an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) patrol. The ambush spot is reported as Gorowen, an area between the townships of Bulumaler and Beladamini in Lower Shabelle region, 140 kilometres southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
