Bank of Uganda has defended the controversial allegation of spending over shs 125 million to procure what has been described as the special souvenir pens to mark the 50th Anniversary celebrations and the Joseph Mubiru memorial lecture.
According to our well-placed insider in the central bank reveals that the expenditure is ‘not big deal in likes of Mont Blank citing that ‘they were just special designer pens. It was just a one off’.
This move has put Some Bank of Uganda officials are in the spotlight over a controversial procurement of pens that cost the country’s central bank Shs125m with each pen going for Shs357, 000.
According to documents mentioned by NTV Uganda, the central bank used Shs125m to procure 350 branded rolling ball point pens for guests at the Golden Jubilee celebrations
Bank of Uganda Communications Director, Christine Alupo, told NTV that the money was used not just to procure pens but also other memorabilia for the high profile local and international guests.
