IEBC Chairman: I cannot guarantee Credible Elections

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has revealed that he can’t guarantee free and fair elections come of October 26 due to the current situation and the divisionism in the commission.

“I have made several attempts to make crucial changes, but all my motions have been defeated by a majority of the commissioners. Under such conditions, it is difficult to guarantee free, fair and credible elections,” Chebukati said in today’s press conference before adding that; “I am convinced that without critical changes in the key secretariat staff, we may not have a free, fair, and credible election. I ask the staff who have been adversely mentioned to step aside and allow the project team to function without interference.”

However, Chebukati said he would preside over the poll and vowed not to resign as Commissioner Roselyn Akombe did.

“Resignation would be the easiest thing but I am determined to make this work.”
