Minister Kasaija summoned over Magezi bill

Minister Kasaija

The Parliament Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has resolved to summon the Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija and Ms Jane Kibirige, the Clerk to Parliament on how the Bill was gazetted.

This decision was reached when Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi failed to stratify the committee with credible information how he secured the Certificate of Financial Implication given to him as support for his Bill on the age limit.

Drama rose after the opposition MPs Ibrahim Ssemujju of Kira Municipality and Bugweri County’s Abdul Katuntu raised suspicion that the documents dated 28 September could be forgeries.

The MPs fear that just like Magyezi forged a committee report during the 9th Parliament, in could be the case with the Certificate of Financial Implication and the Gazetted Bill.

Meanwhile Magyezi has distanced himself from the documents saying that they were authored by legal bodies.

The committee chairperson, Jacob Oboth Oboth has now tasked the Committee Clerk to invite Kasaija and Kibirige on a date yet to be communicated.
