Gashumba sues CMI over unlawful detention

City Mogul and political critic Frank Gashumba has this afternoon sued the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), Grace Akullo, the Director Criminal Investigations and the Commandant of the Special Investigations Division in Kireka over unlawful detention.

Through his lawyer Mr Denis Nyombi filed the case before Nakawa Magistrate Court challenging his client’s continued detention since October 31, 2017 without charge.

Mr Nyombi says that his clients have been in custody for more than 48 hours an act that violates their rights thereby seeking court orders for the immediate release of Frank and his brother Innocent Kasumba.

Mr Nyombi also says that the suspects have been denied their right to legal representation as they can’t be reached by their lawyers, family members and also citing that the continued detention of the duo without charge is unlawful and violates their rights.

Gashumba was arrested on Tuesday over allegations of trying to fleece an investor.
