Court orders for unconditional release of detained Journalists

The Nakawa Chief Magistrate Noah Ssejjabi has ordered for the unconditional release of the detained online investigative journalists.

According to Ssejjabi’s order, the duo have to either produced in court if they have charges to answer or be released immediately since they have been in custody for more than 48 hours an act that violets their rights.

The detained include Stanely Ndawula the CEO of the Investigator new publication and Robert Ndawula the business director of the same publication.

The duo was arrested on Tuesday night after being interrogated at Police’s Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (CIID).

Stanley, who has previously criticized the police leadership, alleges some powerful officials in the law enforcement body, want him remanded at Luzira Prison.

He further states he was provided documents to sign for police bond which was not granted to him before being driven to Kiira Road Police Station in Kampala where he is incarcerated.
