The office of the Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura has taken over investigations into the case against city socialite, Brian White Kirumira. Kirumira was picked up last week for allegedly shooting and injuring Victor Bitwire outside his home in Buziga, a Kampala suburb.
He was slapped with attempted murder charges and locked up at Kabalagala Police Station. Police also conducted a search in his home and recovered an AK47 rifle believed to have been used to shoot Bitwire.
Two Police officers believed to be part of Kirumira’s security detail were arrested and locked up in connection to the incident. Police has since denied ever assigning Kirumira officers to act as his bodyguards.
Now, a Special Investigations team under the IGP’s office led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mark Odong has taken over the investigations.
The case was moved to Naguru where the Special Investigations team sits a day after Kirumira was transferred to Nalufenya detention facility, where he is being held together with one of his body guards.
