Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) has disputed as falsehoods reports by some irresponsible, unpatriotic and opportunistic individuals being peddled on social media that UPDF deployed any infantry troops inside the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and that it suffered casualties.

“Contrary to falsehoods by some irresponsible, unpatriotic and opportunistic individuals being paddled on social media, we reiterate that the UPDF has neither deployed any infantry troops inside DRC nor suffered any casualties.

Brig. Richard Karemire, UPDF Spokesperson said in a statement issued on Wednesday that these limited operations remain to be conducted within the boundaries of the law and with full knowledge and blessing of the DRC Government.

He urged all citizens and allies to disregard these falsehoods and treat them with the competent they deserve adding that “UPDF shall remain committed to its covenant of protecting the wanainchi and therefore, these should be no cause for worry.

Brig Karemire said that following the launch of the air and artillery strikes in a combined joint operation by the UPDF and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) against Allied Democratic Forces’ positions on 22nd December 2017,

it has been established that 8 enemy camps were successfully attacked.

According to him, these were ADF historical strongholds in Eastern DRC in general areas of Erengeti Triangle, North Kivu Province which are Madina, Canada, Abia, Topoke 2, Kajaju, Camp Richard, Makayoba and Sangote.
