As the world might still be in celebrations of popping into the New Year, possibilities of the good and jolly mood turning somber this afternoon were luckily suppressed by a Good Samaritan at the High court.
Exclusive information reaching our desk reveals the six suspended lawmakers survived being battered by unknown assailants at the Kampala High Court where they had a case against the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and the attorney General Hon. William Byaruhanga.
The Members of Parliament Include Hon Allan Ssewanyana (DP, Makindye West), Ibrahim Ssemujju (FDC, Kira Municipality), Jonathan Odur (UPC, Erute South), Gerald Karuhanga (Ind., Ntungamo Municipality), Mubarak Munyagwa (FDC, Kawempe South) and Anthony Akol (FDC, Kilak North) and their lawyers.
According to our highly placed source at the venue intimated to us that a good number of Mafias said to have been hired by some unknown officials to hurt the lawmakers and their team who were seeking for Justice after they were suspended from the August House.
Its said that the attackers on their arrival at the court premises, joined the ruling National Resistance Movement supporters donned in Yellow and holding placards in protest against Kadaga being involved in the case as they solidly waited for suspended MPs.
Though their motivation and source of strength is still unclear, their bid was still unstoppable till when a sympathizer within the security detail in charge of protecting the court premises saw one of them with knife amidst the crowd that was busy spitting bitter words against the Kampala City Mayor Elias Lukwago, Leader of Opposition Hon. Winnie Kiiza and the six suspended lawmakers.
Its further revealed that these attackers were planning to utilize the session when MPs take on the media flaternity on one on one interviews. It is said that some of the goons were stationed at the exist of the Court building readily armed with stones, knives and Iron bars.
How did they survive?
This sympathizer then immediately tipped a police officer who also immediately alerted the Hon. Winnie Kiiza’s protocol officer who inventually called her and a way forward was forged.
Since Leader of Opposition has state security, procedure on how to safely vacate the venue was drawn and all Members of Parliament and their lawyers were advised to use Winnie Kiiza’s cars since they guarded all the time .
The team was miraculously able to leave the court premises and their cars came later on after the crowds had reduced making it impossible for the goons to make any form of attack.
More court Attacks
It should be noted that this is noted that in 2016, another group of unknown people stormed the Makindye court in protest against the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura’s court appearance.
Kayihura and seven other senior police officers had been summoned by court to respond to charges, brought by private lawyers, relating to police’s brutalization of Dr Kizza Besigye supporters and onlookers in Kampala.
However this same ‘yellow’ group turned unruly and attacked Kampala lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, City Lawyers Abdallah Kiwanuka, Nicholas Opiyo and Daniel Walyemera, among others who had come to pin the IGP. The mob accused the mayor’s law firm of being behind the filing of the case against the IGP who they described with as an innocentman on their placards ‘Kayihura Azira Musango’.
Lukwago and his fellow lawyers, Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana and Kawempe North KCCA Councilor Muhammad Ssegirinya took refuge in the chief magistrates’ chambers till they were vacated by a police van to a safer place.
However though such threats have continuously happened in broad daylight, the intention behind government giving a deaf ear to these goons who attack court premises has never been known till now.
