6 Butcher men accused of spraying harmful chemicals on meat and fish in Kampala have this morning been slapped with an 8 month jail sentence.
The sentenced was passed by City Hall grade one magistrate Beatrice Kainza after they pleaded guilty on Friday 5th January 2018.
The detained include Erias Kafumba, Isa Ssenoga, Isma Mutebi, Umar Kalyango, Baker Mulondo and Ibrahim Ssekitto.
They were arrested last week from areas of Nakasero Market, Nankulabye and Ntinda Market in an operation by KCCA health and law enforcement officers.
During the said operation, it was established that the suspects spray harmful chemicals on both the fish and meat they sell to the public in order to deter away and kill flies.
However according to the accused’s lawyer vowed to petition the ruling and described it as a harsh punishment.
He adds that his clients didn’t deserve eight months since the doctors report on the chemicals revealed that the used chemicals have no side effects to human beings.
