The Court of Appeal has upheld the judgment by the Anti-Corruption High court sentencing David Jamwa, the former Managing Director of National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to 12 years in jail.
Justice Kenneth Kakuru delivered the judgment on behalf of the three-member panel of the Court of Appeal judges this morning.
The appellant court also handed Jamwa four years for abuse of office to run concurrently with the twelve year sentence ordered by the Anti-corruption court.
The judgment was in a response to an application filed by Jamwa through his lawyer, David Mpanga challenging his 12 year conviction for corruption.
In March 2011, the then head of Anti-Corruption Court Justice John Bosco Katutsi convicted and sentenced Jamwa to 12 years in jail for causing financial loss of Shillings 3 billion to the Fund. The court also barred Jamwa from holding public office for 10 years.
Jamwa expressed dissatisfaction and appealed the judgment. He was subsequently, released on bail on June 24, 2011 pending the hearing of his appeal. The court of appeal judgment means that Jamwa returns to Luzira prison to serve his full sentence.
