The electoral Commission has announced the programme for the Jinja East Constituency in Jinja district that fell vacant after Court of Appeal on January 12, annulled the election of Nathan Igeme Nabeta on grounds of falsification of election results.
According EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, the Commission has decided to ban all fundraising activities in Jinja with the effect of February 02 to “allow a leveled ground for candidates in the race.”
“For avoidance of doubt, this ban takes effect from Friday 2nd February, 2018 which is the cut-off date for registration of voters and transfer of voting location in Jinja East Constituency in Jinja district and will continue until polling date,” Byabakama said.
Nabeta is set to again face off with his rival, FDC’s Paul Mwiru.
According to the EC programme that was released on Thursday, the polling date for this by-election will take place on Thursday 15th March, 2018 with candidates urged to observe law and order during the exercise and to conduct their campaigns meetings in accordance with the harmonized programme.
