Makerere has finally resolved to scrap off evening lectures as advised by the visiting committee that was sent by President Museveni to investigate the operations of the university.
While addressing the issues facing the university today morning, the University chancellor Prof. Nawangwe said that there will be no evening classes starting with the first years who are to be admitted this year in August.
“The University Council resolved that all new students starting with the coming Academic Year 2018/19, will be admitted to study at Makerere on either the day program from 8:00am to 5:00pm or on the afternoon program from 2:00pm to 6:00pm,” he said.
Much more, the university will continue remunerating staff offering services on the evening program since it has not been scrapped off for the continuing students.
“Since all continuing students of Makerere University currently enrolled on the evening programs will continue with their studies until successful completion, there is need to continue remunerating staff offering services on the evening program,” he announced.
The university council has also promised to find affordable service providers to provide cheap meals to the students who reside in halls since most of them have been complaining about the expensive meals.
