The FUFA President took time to laud the Government of the Republic of Uganda for the continued financial support towards the Federation. This includes funding of the Uganda Cranes, payment of the Head coach’s remuneration and new initiative of paying 50 national team players and 6 members of the Technical team monthly.

“We thank the Government, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni and Minister of State for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi plus the National Council of Sports (NCS) for the continued support towards the Federation. It is the first time we are having four National teams playing but without making an outcry for support,” said the President.

The FUFA President also confirmed that the arrears of the fomer National team coach Milultin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic had been cleared as well.

KCCA FC writing history

The President lauded Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) for making it to the group stages of this year’s CAF Champions League becoming the first Ugandan club to attain the feat.

“As FUFA, we congratulate KCCA FC, Executive Director of KCCA, Chairman, Players, sponsors of the club, coach, fans, Team captain for the achievement because we believe this is not only for them as a club but the entire nation. Playing at such a stage helps the players get exposed. Besides, the club and Ugandan football benefits in various ways. The qualification comes with more slots for Uganda at the Continental club football level, experience of Human resource, financial gains and professionalism.

National team engagements

The FUFA President indicated that it is not easy to have four national teams playing at the same time. This was in regard to the Uganda Cranes, Crested Cranes (Women’s team), Uganda Cubs (U17) and Uganda Hippos (U2O).

“It is a privilege that all four National teams will be in action at the same time and this is happening for the first team. It requires a lot of funds, commitment and resources to make sure this is covered but as FUFA, we are proud that we have the capacity to have this happen’ said FUFA President.

Uganda Cranes will play two international friendlies against Sao Tome and Principe and Malawi on 24thand 27th March 2018 respectively. The Crested Cranes are in preparations to face Kenya in the 2019 CAF Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Hippos will play South Sudan in the 2019 CAF U20 qualifiers whilst the Cubs will play at the 2018 U17 CECAFA championship in Burundi next month.
