Police has raided shops around Shamba Complex Building, Kisekka Market following reliable intelligence on duplicity and counterfeited products.
The operation was jointly conducted with Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) which is charged with ensuring goods of standards enter the market and Ugandans consume only genuine goods and services. Also in participation was Uganda Registration Bureau Services (URSB) Intellectual Property Enforcement Unit that is charged with protection of IP rights and enforcement of standards in relation to IP areas.
The police coordinated operation code named ‘FAGIA’ came as a result of aggrieved members of the business community citing numerous counterfeits and duplicated goods flooding the markets hence affecting their businesses.
A number of fake products including macrons (edibles), televisions, oil lubricants, mattresses, Gillette products, pirated books and memory sticks have been confiscated.
