Opposition friends and workmates have deployed a team six senior lawyers to rescue renowned Journalist and former Bulamogi MP Aspirant Simon Muyanga Lutaaya from detention.
Lutaaya who has been in custody since 30th April has today appeared before Jinja High Magistrates Court for the hearing of his case where he is being accused of failing to pay a court fine of Shs153 million.
The team of Lawyers on frontline is Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Asuman Basalirwa among others.
It should be noted that Lutaaya filed an election petition contesting the victory of NRM’s Kenneth Lubogo but lost the cases both at Jinja High Court on August 19, 2016 and the Court of Appeal on November 22, 2017.
In the same plea, Jesse Byaruhanga the Jinja High Court deputy registrar in January this year issued an arrest warrant for Muyanga after he failed to honour court summons, something the registrar described as contempt of court.
