Police embarks on community sensitization in fight against kidnaps

Following a number of kidnap cases reported around Kampala, police has embarked on community sensitization as a measure of creating security awareness.

Kampala Metropolitan Police has reiterated this resolve with the aim of putting an end to kidnapping in Kampala and the surroundings .

Several community security meetings have commenced in different parts of Kampala in a bid to sensitise the public about the effects and ways of fighting the spiking vice.

While speaking recently at a security meeting in Natete Market, the OC. Natete Police Station ASP. Muhammad Byansi expressed sadness at reported cases of kidnap, murders stressing that the crime must be nipped in the bud.

He ad­vised members of the pub­lic to be wary of those they employ as house helps, tenants and other suspicious visitors in their surroundings

He said that police had put security mechanisms in place, including the provi­sion of a dedicated telephone number to handle issues related to kidnaps.

He read out the following numbers 0800199991,0800199992 and 0800199993 and explained that these dedi­cated numbers were to ensure that distress calls were re­sponded to promptly by the police, before the criminals would leave the scene.

ASP. Byansi further educated the residents on how to tackle general crimes, advised the different communities and villages to set up strong, focused security groups to act as a force multiplier for intelligence and enhanced night foot patrols.

He encouraged the spirit of neighbourhood watch of being each other’s keeper and to always report any anomalies in their areas to the nearest police stations and posts.
