Kira Division Police has arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly stealing a 1 year old baby from his landlord in Bulindo, Kiwologoma Kira Municipality Wakiso District.
A disappearance report was made by the baby’s mother Ms.Juliet Nankunda vide SD 02/04/06 2018 of Kiwologoma Police station and the suspects phone contacts provided to the investigating officers.
Nankunda claimed that she had been busy with house chores when one of her tenants identified as Derrick Jjuko asked if he can assist hold and play with the baby so that she could complete her work.
Jjuko instead parked a few of his belongings, boarded a taxi to Katosi and camped at a friend’s house.
Our teams through GPS technology located, found him in possession of the baby at Katosi in Mukono District hence arresting him. The little baby was today reunited with its mother.
The suspect’s motive of stealing the baby is still unknown however he is currently detained at Kira Division Police Station as investigations are ongoing.
In regard to child stealing the Penal Code Act states that any person who, with intent to deprive any parent, guardian or other person who has the lawful care or charge of a child under the age of fourteen years of the possession of such child
(a) forcibly or fraudulently takes or entices away, or detains thechild; or
(b) receives or harbours the child, knowing it to have been so taken, enticed away or detained,commits a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.
