President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has condemned the manner in which loyal Arua Municipality lawmaker Col. Ibrahim Abiriga was murdered.
Museveni who made this comment immediately after the incident, described the acts as a senseless killing.
Museveni said that Col Abiriga was a dedicated supporter and a patriotic Ugandan who worked for peace in West Nile.
“Vigilance will lead to the capture of these criminals as it happened in Masaka. These criminals were moving on a numberless pikipikis and their heads were covered with helmets even when they were standing in one place. These were signs that should have led to suspicion. Had the locals rang the police, this crime could have been prevented. Therefore, please, report everything that is suspicious and do so promptly.” Museveni said
Museveni added that Once the surveillance equipment is installed, which will be done in a few months, the work of identifying criminals will be prompt. Even today, while still using our old methods, provided there is alertness, the criminals will be defeated.
Abiriga was shot dead yesterday evening at around 6:30pm, by gunmen moving on two motorcycles, near Energy fuel station Kawanda as he approached his home.
Eye witnesses say that the gunmen first shot in the air which forced locals in the surrounding area to take cover. They shot Abiriga’s car tyres and the gunmen on one of the motorcycles moved in front of Abiriga’s car while the other followed from back. The gunman in front shot Abiriga in the head and also shot his bodygourd and after disappeared.
Rest In Peace Col. Ibrahim Abiriga!
