President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has condemned the manner in which loyal Arua Municipality lawmaker Col. Ibrahim Abiriga was murdered.
Museveni who made this comment immediately after the incident, described the acts as a senseless killing.
He also tasked security agencies to expeditiously find the killers.
“I have received news about the senseless killing of Arua Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Abiriga, and his bodyguard on the outskirts of Kampala this evening,” Museveni said in a statement later. I have tasked security agencies to expeditiously find these killers and the nation will be updated soon. This urban criminality is going to stop. May Hon Abiriga’s soul rest in peace.” President Stated.
Abiriga was shot dead yesterday evening at around 6:30pm, by gunmen moving on two motorcycles, near Energy fuel station Kawanda as he approached his home.
Eye witnesses say that the gunmen first shot in the air which forced locals in the surrounding area to take cover. They shot Abiriga’s car tyres and the gunmen on one of the motorcycles moved in front of Abiriga’s car while the other followed from back. The gunman in front shot Abiriga in the head and also shot his bodygourd and after disappeared.
