Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze has said doesn’t regret having have made the social media post that landed her in trouble.
Speaking to journalists at Kiruddu hospital where she has been detained for more than a week, Nambooze says doesn’t care if her post annoyed President Museveni, but all she knows is that she has a right to post anything she wants, anywhere and anytime without consulting anyone.
Nambooze also accused a section of government officials of using politics to block her treatment.
“I have no regrets whatsoever for my social media post on the late [Ibrahim] Abiriga because there is nothing wrong I did. If what I wrote hurt his family, then I am sorry. But if it hurt [President] Museveni, then I am very happy. Actually, I met Abiriga’s family at Parliament and we had a chat but [President] Museveni now fears the social media revolution,’ Nambooze said.
Nambooze also says government should instead be grilled over Abiriga’s death since they used him, forgot him and even failed to protect him.
Her comment comes hours after the Human Rights Commission appealing to government to provide better medical care to the lawmaker citing that if anything happens to her as a result of the delay in her medical treatment, it would raise legitimate questions as to how she was treated while in police custody.
