A senior Police Officer has died while on plane in a similar manner former Internal Affairs minister Gen Aronda Nyakairima died.
Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed that Commissioner of Police (CP) Wilfred Okello Makmot on Tuesday died while in transit from USA to Uganda. Makmot was attached to Ministry of Internal Affairs in the department of National Focal Point in Small Arms and Light Weapons.
In 2015, Gen Aronda died in a similar mysterious manner while in transit from Seoul, South Korea to Uganda. Whereas Gen Aronda is said to have been allegedly poisoned, reports indicated that he died of cardiac arrest.
In a letter that this website has seen, Internal Affairs ministry Permanent Secretary Aggrey Wunyi has written to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Ochola Okoth informing him about the death of the senior officer.
“We have received communication from our ministry of foreign affairs originating from the Ugandan Embassy in Abu Dhabi that the above named officer (Makmot) died while in transit from the New York, USA to Uganda via Dubai,” the letter reads.
He added that the relatives of the deceased have bene informed and arrangements for the body to be repatriated to Uganda are underway. Makmot has a residential home in Kirinya on Bukasa Road in Bweyogerere.
