The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), the governing body of football in Uganda has exposed city tycoons who own football clubs in the country.
In a public notice signed by FUFA Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Watson Suubi, the decision to reveal the identities of those behind the football clubs arose out of need for clarity and openness.
“FUFA herby publishes the 16 first Division Club Owners as registered. If no objection received by 30th July 2018 at 1700hours, FUFA will proceed to consider club ownership for eligible clubs to be licensed in 2018-2019 season,” the notice reads.
The records indicate that football clubs in Uganda are owned by politicians including ministers and MPs, businessmen, government and private institutions. Among the MPs who own football clubs include; Western youth MP Mpine Mpaka Rwamirama, also son to minister Bright Rwamirama, state minister for Northern Affairs Grace Kwiycuwiny, Eng. Simon D’ujang, state minister for Energy and Biyika Songa Lawrence, Ora County MP among others.
