The body of a senior officer who died on plane like Gen Aronda Nyakairima has touched ground from Entebbe International Airport.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Wilfred Okello Makmot died while in transit from USA to Uganda two weeks ago. CP Makmot was attached to Ministry of Internal Affairs in the department of National Focal Point in Small Arms and Light Weapons.

Fellow Police Commissioners received the body at the airport with relative gutted with grief.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Police expects a report from its pathologists on the possible cause of his death.

Early this week, the police dispatched a team of pathologists led by the Police Director of Health Services Dr. Moses Byaruhanga to Dubai to examine the late Makmot’s body and also coordinate its return home.

According to the tentative program, after arrival, the body will be driven to Mulago Hospital mortuary for treatment and later taken to his home in Kirinya, Bweyogerere where a vigil and memorial service will be held. On Friday a funeral service will be held for the deceased at All Saints church Nakasero.

In 2015, Gen Aronda, who was serving as Internal Affairs minister died in a similar mysterious manner while in transit from Seoul, South Korea to Uganda. Whereas Gen Aronda is said to have been allegedly poisoned, reports indicated that he died of cardiac arrest.

On September 2016, another diplomat-Ambassador Najuna Njuneki, in charge of Special Duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collapsed and died aboard a plane. Ambassador Njuneki was reportedly returning from a meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, with Ugandans living in Nordic countries. Njuneki boarded the plane while seemingly in good health only to pass away upon landing in Johannesburg.
