Restlessness, fear and anticipation has struck new municipalities a head of the long awaited day Friday 27th July 2018.
According to the electoral Commission, all is set for the election of Members of Parliament, municipality directly elected councilors, municipal women councilors and municipal chairpersons countrywide.
Candidates in the seven new municipalities wound up campaigns yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s elections though some in opposition have increasingly become worried over fear to be arrested by security officials.
Yesterday a number of officials from the Justice Forum and Democratic Party were arrested in Bugiri over hard to understand reasons. However according to Asuman Basalirwa once of the candidates in the race says will not be threatens with the arrests since it’s the voice of the people that shall decide but not the guns or teargas.
It should be noted that a few days back, President Museveni’s donated ambulances to the new municipalities just days to polling day something that has drawn mixed reactions.
These municipalities include Bugiri, Sheema, Nebbi, Buikwe, Kotido, Ibanda and Apac.
One of the notable races is the one for the Bugiri parliamentary seat that has pit Justice Forum’s Asuman Basalirwa against FDC’s Eunice Namatende and NRM’s Francis Okecho.
In Njeru Municipality the race has attracted 6 candidates including NRM’s Yasiin Kyazze and FDC’s Amos Kivumbi.
In Sheema the battle is between Science and Technology minister Erioda Tumwesigye and FDC’s Virginia Mugyenyi.
While for Ibanda, some of the candidates are NRM’s Tarsis Rwaburindoore, FDC’s Alex Byaruhanga and Peter Agaba and independent.
