The former presidential aspirant Dr. Kiiza Besigye has congratulated JEEMA’s candidate Asuman Basalirwa upon wining the hotly contested Bugiri Municipality race.
Commenting through his twitter handle, Besigye said that all is well that ends well!
He however tasked the newly elected lawmaker to quickly reunite the opposition forces for a bigger struggle since the battle is now at the edge.
“All is well that ends well! Congratulations @BasalirwaAsuman for winning the Bugiri Municipality election! Please proceed to quickly reunite our forces for the bigger struggle. The struggle continues!” Besigye tweeted.
The grievances between the opposition emerged after the efforts to front one candidate in the Bugiri race flopped. This divided different officials with some joining JEEMA’s Basalirwa and other FDC’s Eunice Namande something that even resulted into the exchange of bitter words.
However on Friday night, Mr Basalirwa was on Friday night declared the winner of Bugiri Municipality MP race by the Bugiri District Returning Officer, Ms Kunihira Christine.
He got 3,928 votes, followed by NRM candidate Mr Francis Oketcho with 3,267 and the FDC candidate Ms Eunice Namatende came third with 928 votes. Others; Hajji Lyavala Samanya (ind) got 8 votes and Mr Joel Wamono also on independent ticket got 15 votes.
