Bugiri Municipality elect Asuman Basalirwa has finally taken oath about a month after his election in the contested election for the newly created municipality that saw NRM summersault to a heavy loss.
According to the official results released by Electoral Commission, Justice Forum (JEEMA) party President Basalirwa got 3,928 votes, followed by NRM’s Francis Oketcho who got 3,267 and the FDC candidate Eunice Namatende came third with 928 votes. Others; Hajji Lyavala Samanya (Ind) got 8 votes while Joel Wamono another independent candidate got 15 votes.
During the plenary sitting on Tuesday, Basalirwa was ushered into the parliament chambers for the first time where he was accompanied by close MPs. Basalirwa took the oath of allegiance before Speaker Rebecca Kadaga welcomed him to the House and handed him instruments of power that include the Constitution of Uganda and Parliament Rules of Procedure.
Earlier on, MPs also witnessed the administration of oaths for NRM’s Peter Abraham Loki, MP elect for Kotido Municipality.
