Muslims in Kampala and around the world are preparing to celebrate Eid Al Adha on Tuesday 21st August, 2018.
Eid Al Adha is a festival celebrated by Muslims all over the world in remembrance of the sacrifice given to Prophet Ibrahim because of his faith in God (SWT)
The Prophet Ibrahim expressed his willingness to offer up his only son, Ismail, but later God provided a lamb as alternative sacrifice. Allah was pleased with Ibrahim’s actions and called the Muslims to perform this act of faith as part of their lives.
Thus every year Muslims may kill, a cow, a goat, a sheep or a camel to respect the act done by Ibrahim. The ceremony is governed by acts of gratitude and generosity.
In light of this practice therefore, JUMIA, the online shop will be selling goats starting on Wednesday 15th August, 2018. The average size of the goats is 23 kg and each will be selling for a mere 100,000 UGX (on the market they cost between UGX 300,000 and UGX 500,000). The sale will last one day and customers will have a chance to purchase the goats every hour of the day starting at midnight.
“Eid is an important festival to our Muslim brothers and sisters, we understand that not everyone is able to readily purchase a live animal for the day which is why we have discounted the price so greatly and added the convenience of delivering it to the customers.”said Neville Igasira Iguundura, Jumia’s Chief Marketing Officer.
Jumia customers will have the goats delivered directly to their doorstep, and this sale is limited to only Kampala.
