Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has called for a review of the government decision to close all health centre IIs country wide.
“Policy makers have to change the policy to scrap all health health centre IIs in the country because not all people in villages live within a 5km radius,” she said, while officiating at the opening of Mwanyangiri Health Centre II in Mukono district on Monday 13th August 2018.
Kadaga said that people in villages walk long distances to access medical services therefore it would be a disservice for the government to close health centre IIs.
She added that people should fully utilize the health centres in order to get better services.
“All mothers should ensure to go for cancer screening; cancer is a silent killer and people should take note,” she said, advising government to introduce screening for cancer whenever people go for health check ups.
She also encouraged women to go for antenatal tests saying government had increased the times for antenatal checks from four to eight times.
Hon Johnson Muyanja (NRM, Mukono South) said the construction of the health centre at Mwanyangiri has helped in the provision of health services to the people.
“People were traveling as far as Mukono town for immunization but now they will be immunized from the their area,” he said.
He also requested government to increase on the number of doctors and medical workers working in rural areas.
Muyanja up lauded the Speaker for caring about the health of Ugandans.
