Former Member of Parliament Bugabula South and State Minister Asuman Kiyingi has called for thorough investigation into the continued and increasing levels of human right abuses in the country.
Speaking in response to the Arua municipality Mayhem that resulted in blood shed and torture of several people including lawmakers, Kayingi says its high time government reacted positively.
He added that if what the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Hon. Kyagilanyi Robert Ssentamu narrated is true, a lot needs to be rectified including bringing the perpetrators to book.
“The allegations of torture are very serious and must be investigated. If found true the culprits should face the full wrath of the law. Anything less would be a negation of all the strides and gains we have made over the years as a country in upholding the rule of law and protection of individual human rights.” He stated.
Bobi Wine was arrested 13th August when the Arua Municipality climaxed, he was allegedly tortured to pulp by security operatives and is currently facing treason charges. He was arrested along with several lawmakers and activists who were all granted bail on 27th August though still nursing wounds.
