Uganda to host 2019/2020 International Water Conferences

The Government of  Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation will host the 2019 International Water Association Solutions to Intermittent Water Supply Conference (IWS 2019) and the African Water Association Congress (AFWA 2020) in Kampala, Uganda.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Water Hon Ronald Kibuule and the NWSC Board Chairman Dr. Eng Christopher Ebal at the NWSC stall during the ongoing World Water Congress in Tokyo,Japan.

Speaking at the stall, Hon Kibuule shared that the Government of Uganda through NWSC and the Ministry of Water and Environment are prepared to host the hundreds of delegates during the two conferences.

“We are preparing very informative sessions that will showcase the progress made and the future plans to achieve clean safe water and sanitation for all in Uganda.”

NWSC Board Chairman Dr.Eng Christopher Ebal said that the corporation is making all necessary arrangements to ensure that the solutions to the water and sanitation sector on the African continent are discussed.
“NWSC Uganda is a benchmark for utility efficiency and excellence in Africa. The preparations for the congresses are in high gear ” he added

At the African Pavilion, Dr. Eng Christopher Ebal shared the NWSC strategic direction and service delivery acceleration plans for the people of Uganda as the corporation strives to achieve 100% Water service coverage in all it’s areas of operation.

NWSC MD and the Vice President of the International Water Association Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha made a key note address on *Water Governance and Institutional issues in Developing countries* a case study of NWSC Uganda as a precursor for the upcoming discussions in Kampala.

Hon Ronald Kibuule shared the Uganda water and Sanitation Sector plans with the leadership of the African Water Association at the African water village in Tokyo,Japan.

“I’m proud that Uganda is shinning on the Global stage. John Fisher Sekabira a staff from NWSC has been elected the Vice President of the Emerging Water Leaders Steering Commitee.

The NWSC MD Eng Silver Mugisha was recently elected Vice President of the International Water Association.
The two are the *first Africans* to take up the positions in addition to other Ugandans who are part of the International Water Association leadership.

These are great strides for the sector in terms of capacity building and knowledge sharing that will take the water and sanitation sector to greater frontiers.” he said

The International Water Association congress brings together over 10,000 Water and Sanitation experts to device solutions to the Global water and Sanitation challenges.
This year, the Congress was held in Japan, Tokyo and Uganda was ably represented.
