The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has commended young entrepreneurs for setting the investment stage for their peers to pick up, especially those promoting regional integration through trade across the region.

Speaking at the 20th National Prayer Breakfast held at Hotel Africana on Monday, 8 October 2018, Kadaga singled out Jumbo Mandela and Ahmed Ntale who have set up factories and are providing employment for youths.

“I would like to commend the hard work of two Ugandans. Jumbo Mandela started his business with a capital of shs300,000 and it is now worth shs300mllion… Ahmed Ntale’s company makes cosmetics and employs 200 people and has got permission to set up a facility in Kenya,” Kadaga noted.

She advised the congregation to pick a leaf from the hardworking gesture by the young entrepreneurs saying, “… we are called upon to work and have very good examples of the young people here; so let us take the message in mind as we start the 57th year of our independence as a country.”

“King Solomon in Proverbs 6:6 talks about the ant which is very hardworking with no overseer. A sluggard will try any excuse to shy away from modest labour,” the Speaker said.

She also called on leaders to have values of intellect, principle, intuition and solid ground while guiding people in the socio-economic sphere.

Kadaga made reference to the event theme with an allusion to the Bible, which called on leaders to handle the concept of time with care especially when executing their duties in service to the people.

The theme of this year’s National Prayer Breakfast is ‘All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty’.

“Wise leaders know their time is limited. They know that they have no way to retrieve misused or wasted time, and Jesus stressed this in John 9: 4,” said Kadaga.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Derrick Samuels, reiterated the essence of timekeeping and utilizing it to achieve growth in any given sector of the country.

“There are two things that do not respect people on earth; if you don’t respect them, then they will disrespect you; those are time and opportunities,” Dr. Samuels said.

The guest speaker, Senator James Clayborne from the State of Illinois in the United States, emphasised the value of teamwork, noting that “… sometimes it is okay to fight and disagree but we should not forget the principles that bring us together.”
