Government has announced the cancellation and suspension of external labour recruitment licenses of 3 and 7 companies respectively.
Government through Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in a public notice signed by James Ebitu on behalf of the Permanent Secretary announced the cancellation of licenses of 3 recruitment agencies. The companies include; Sauman Services Limited, Fountain Security Services and Abroad Placement (U) Limited.
Pursuant to Regulations 19(c), (f), 20(1) and 50(1), of the Employment Recruitment of Ugandan Migrant workers abroad Regulations, 2005, the ministry of Gender has the rights to revoke licenses of companies that flout the regulations.
Ebitu in the same letter also suspended licenses of 7 other recruitment agencies until further notice. The affected companies include; Karibun International Limited, Elite Placements Consulting Limited, Labour Frontiers International Limited, Fresh Mind International Limited, Swift International Recruiters Limited and Professional Recruitment Services.
“The public is therefore, informed to desist from dealing with the above mentioned external labour companies whose licenses have been cancelled and susoedned. Whoever deals with the said companies, its agents or employees on matters of external labour recruitment and placement of Ugandan migrant workers abroad does it at his or her own risk,” Ebitu said.
Several recruitment companies have been accused of human trafficking, abuse of labour rights, slavery and sexual harassment.
