Makerere University research fellow Dr Stella Nyanzi has asked to be sent back to Luzira after turning down an opportunity to apply for bail.
According to Dr. Stella Nyanzi who pleaded not guilty to charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication, she claimed that she did not need bail since she was still training the inmates on how to use social media.
Nyanzi also adds that she cannot be charged for her use of metaphors because its just a literary device that she prefers to use and the president has no right to be offended by her poetic skills.
“I don’t want to waste the court’s time, I deny the charges. I want Museveni to come to court, face me into my eyes and tell me how my posts on Face book have offended him,” she says.
Much more, Nyanzi says that the president should not be angry since his mother does not exist anymore and she was speaking for the public that is scared of opening up.
“I have written a lot about Mr Museveni and I don’t see what I faulted to say that his mother Esteri who is even a dead woman as we speak should killed him at birth looking at what he has done to the Ugandans your worship. I speak for many people and I plead not guilty on this count.” Nyanzi added.
Nyanzi was henceforth remanded until November 22 by magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.
It should be noted that the academician, Dr. Nyanzi was recently arrested at Wandegeya police station after posting a provocative vulgar birthday poem to President Yoweri Museveni targetting his late mother, Esteeri Kokundeka.
However, in April 2017, Nyanzi was charged for calling the president ‘a pair of buttocks’ at Buganda Road Magistrate’s court which was regarded as cyber harassment and offensive communication contrary to provisions of the Computer Misuse Act.
