Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has paid tribute to families and friends of revellers who perished in a boat accident on Saturday.
Over 30 revellers drowned and 20 others rescued after the Templar Boat capsized near Mutima Beach during End of Year Boat Cruise which was suspected to be carrying about 120 people.
In her condolence message, Speaker Kadaga has vowed to review and mend any loopholes in the current laws regulating water transport system.
“I pledge the commitment by Parliament of Uganda to expeditiously to plug any loopholes in the laws that regulate the management of water transport in our country as soon as they are presented by government for consideration,” Kadaga said.
On behalf of Parliament and her own behalf, Kadaga expressed deepest sympathy on the tragedy that befell Ugandans on Saturday.
“At this trying times, I offer my most sincere condolences on this loss of lives, sympathy for the trauma that the families, friends and we Ugandans are undergoing. We shall continue to pray for the families left behind and those who are still in hospital,” she said.
