Makerere University Guild leaders have been arrested by Uganda Police force officials over their allegations of holding unlawful processions contrary to the Public order management bill.
This was after a mega assembly organized by student’s leadership in the freedom square over lecturers strike.
According to the aggrieved students, they have never had any lecture since the semester started three weeks ago, yet there no chances of being compensated for the precious time lost.
For hours, students have been seen running battles with the police and Field force police who has been heavily deployed in the freedom square, outside the main gate to block any strike attempts.
However defiant student students by press time are still canting revolutionary songs and burning vehicle tyres in different parts of the university.
Among the arrested is the University Guild speaker Isaac Kwagala who was picked up by Military Police from Pool Road between Mitchell Hall and College Of Computing And Information Sciences -COCIS.
Kwagala was briefly detained at Wandegeya Police Station before he was transferred to the Central Police Station in Kampala.
