Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has for the first time spoken out about romours that he is being prepared to replace Edward Sekandi as vice president of Uganda.
Apparently, Mayiga is soon going to relinquish his position as Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom to serve in President Yoweri Museveni’s NRM government.
Sources say that last week’s meeting of Museveni and Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at the latter’s Banda Palace was to discuss the same matter. It is said that this visit was an opportunity for Museveni to inform Kabaka about his imminent appointment of Mayiga as Vice President. Current VP Sekandi is said to be retiring from active politics in 2021.
However, in a tweet, Mayiga has refuted the allegations that he I’d being fronted for VP saying that he is still dedicated to serve his master-Kabaka.
“Rumors are ripe that am going to be appointed VP; that that’s the reason Pres M7 was hosted by Kabaka Mutebi at Banda Palace so the President might brief the King. I am not the next VP. Iam carrying out my duties as entrusted to me by the Kabaka. I don’t do under table deals,” Mayiga said in a tweet.
Last month, Mayigawas on record when he defended the NRM government saying that those who are criticizing the current government did not live much earlier to witness the anarchy in Amin Dada and Milton Obote’s times.
