Newly appointed chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) Hon Mubarak Munyagwa has been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Court.
According to the summon issued by state prosecutor, Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, Munyagwa is wanted over Shs100m bribe he allegedly solicited while still serving as the Mayor Kawempe Division, about 5 years back.
Kawempe South Member of Parliament was expected in the Kololo based court on Thursday but he didn’t come neither did his lawyer, thus getting an extension to March 6, 2019.
Prosecution alleges that in December 2014 at Haks Investment Limited, Munyagwa who was a mayor of Kawempe Division solicited for a gratification of Shs100m from Francis Kakumba.
The bribe was for him to exert improper influence over Kawempe Division Urban Council to nominate Muyanja Isaac (S/O Francis Kavuma) for appointment as a member of Kampala City Land Board representing Kawempe Division.
Prosecution further notes that Munyagwa, in the same year, received a gratification of $20,000 [Shs73m] from Kakumba in exchange for him to exert improper influence over Kawempe Division Urban Council to nominate Isaac Muyanja (S/O Kakumba).
